It gets worse

Welcome to buttonmashing.com, a weblog were we talk about video games. If you're new here or you arrived from a Google search, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed and keep up with our site. Thanks for visiting! You can reach the homepage here.

You think and hope, in your heart of hearts, that things can’t get any worse. But it appears they do (via Slashdot). From the Gamespot piece (is it just me or is Gamespot kicking the pants off IGN/Gamespy?):

It’s not just the adults that are liberated from their wardrobes. Sims kids can also be nudified, “much to the delight, one can be sure, of pedophiles around the globe who can rehearse, in virtual reality, for their abuse.”

I am so stunned by this guys audacity and stupidity that it makes my stomach hurt. How can this guy believe the drivel that comes out of his mouth? Is he hearing what he is saying? Can any rational human being come to the conclusions this guy comes to? It goes beyond boggling the mind.

I feel ill.

All I can say is welcome to my world.

I have been feeling ill about a wide range of subjects for some time. Video game attacks are simply following the same pattern.

Condemn something using no logic or reason. Condemn it again using the ‘to protect the children’ argument. Keep it up until law is used to control people’s behavior via law based on the original non-logical emotional condemnations. Move on to the next target/level.

Jeez that sounds like a video game to me!

Here is another page on the net dealing with this issue. In fact it is the best page in the universe. Tongue in cheek funny.

I can’t decide if I want to post on this further on CT or not, because I’m pretty worn about the Coffee debate.

However, this is the litmus test. Did the ESRB cave-in do potentially irrevocable harm to the PC game industry. Jack’s saying nude skins and some people are saying “it’s not nude, the code just removes the blur”.

Except, of course, there are plenty of nude mods out there. In his letter to EA, old Jack used the word mod in one context or another seven times … about twice every paragragh.

So to everyone who is saying “it doesn’t matter unless the content is on the disc” … god I hope you’re right.

Josh - I’m getting pretty burned out on Thompson’s crap, too, but this one was too egregious to pass up. It made my head hurt. Of course everyone knows EA is completely innocent (in this case) but we’ve seen weirder things happen…

On a side note, is Blogger/Blogspot down? I tried accessing CT and it never loaded. Along with a couple other blogspot sites.

Bobster - Yeah, Maddox usually is spot on with his commentary.

Yeah, he’s unfortunately become so connected to this debate that he’s virtually unavoidable. I just wish he had given us a couple of days to catch our breaths :)

I wonder how well he’ll fare against the gaming industry’s darling as opposed to it’s bad boy.

CT is coming up OK for me today, but blogspot can always have it’s moments of complete flakitude. I’d just give it a couple of hours.
