It really pours. My Xbox 360 is somewhere on its way to get repaired and now my main PC has died. I was already planning on a major upgrade soon, this just fast tracks that process.
My dead PC was being held together by the proverbial duct tape and fishing line. It’s gone through three video cards, three hard drives and numerous severe crashes. I lost count how many times I’ve reinstalled Windows on it. The motherboard, processor and memory were all four years old. It was time to upgrade.
I turned to Tom’s Hardware for some reviews and Pricewatch for the best prices. I was pleasantly surprised that Newegg has such good prices. Using Pricewatch, I’m always nervous that the lowest priced components are coming from shady operations, so I was much more confident going with Newegg.
The new system isn’t going to break any benchmark records, but should be solid for the next few years. My new rig will consist of:
ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
EVGA GeForce 7600GT
CORSAIR XMS2 1GB DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
Seagate Barracuda 160GB SATA
I’m pretty excited to get all my stuff. Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll get it until Monday, even though I paid for expedited shipping. So it will be a DS weekend for me.
