Mega Man 9: Lovers and Haters

Welcome to buttonmashing.com, a weblog were we talk about video games. If you're new here or you arrived from a Google search, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed and keep up with our site. Thanks for visiting! You can reach the homepage here.

Mega Man 9Capcom has made a bold move to make Mega Man 9. Actually, Capcom making a Mega Man game period has not really been all that bold. They’ve been milking that franchise more than my local dairy sticks a vacuum tube to their cows.

Mega Man 9 will be old school. Yes, it’s going to be done like an old NES game–graphics, style, and sound. It’ll be available as a WiiWare title. No timeframe on the date or price.

The lovers: anyone over the age of 25 who played Mega Man 2 or 3.

The haters: anyone under the age of 25.

(Don’t believe me? The comments at Kotaku are priceless.)

Somehow, GamesRadar was able to score some screenshots and get a little more info such as boss descriptions.

If this is a hit expect to see tons more new, old games. Ha!  I, for one, welcome it. Thanks to GameRadar for the pic.

For some reason, I was under the impression that Megaman 9 had already been made for the NES/SNES and that this was just a rerelease over WiiWare. My love affair with Megaman basically ended with Megaman 2 (I didn’t care that much for 3 and haven’t spent much time at all with the series since then) and I thought I already had 9 on my Megaman Anniversary Collection disc from a few years ago.

Well, colour me somewhat interested. If they could capture the lightning-in-a-bottle that was Megaman 2, I’ll be super happy.

I’m with Brock — I haven’t done much with the Megaman series since MM3. It will be interesting, though, to see how this one turns out.
