About Me

Welcome to buttonmashing.com, a weblog were we talk about video games. If you're new here or you arrived from a Google search, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed and keep up with our site. While you're visiting, why not visit My MiniCity, Joystickland! Thanks for visiting! You can reach the homepage here.

The Big KahunaWho am I, you ask? Well pull up a chair and I’ll tell ya. My name is Tony, I’m a father of two wonderful kids, husband to the most beautiful woman, ever, and an obsessed video gamer. Usually in that order. I’ve been “blogging” since 2001, but didn’t start buttonmashing.com until 2004. I have been playing video games, off and on, in one form or another, for the past 20+ years and don’t see any end in sight.

Why “buttonmashing”? Because I used to be a pretty serious Street Fighter II/Mortal Kombat/Tekken arcade player and I abhorred buttonmashers. HATED them. Mostly because they always win. You can know every single move and be able to pull off ten-hit-combos and some half-ape buttonmasher will take you down. So I figured the name would be appropriate, since now that my arcade days are over I’ve kind of become a buttonmasher myself.

Why blog about video games? I’ve long been intrigued by the blogging phenomenon and have always been interested in what other people have to say. I figured there must be a few people who think like me and would be interested in what I might have to say. Birds of a feather and all that. You’re supposed to blog about what you know, so I decided I’d blog about video games. I also started the Carnival of Gamers, a traveling blog carnival for video game bloggers because I enjoy reading other gaming blogs and there are a lot of good writers out there. This site started as a blogger.com site and I eventually upgraded to the WordPress blogging platform, the greatest one of them all. It’s gone through a handful of changes, mostly cosmetic (i.e. I changed WP themes). I took screen shots of the way the site used to look, I should probably put those on Flickr some time. I’ve stuck with the k2 theme the longest because it’s got the most functionality and plug-in support out-of-the-box. That, and it’s awesome.

As far as gaming, you can read my “gaming pedigree” here. Currently, you’ll find me playing on either my Nintendo DS Lite or my Xbox 360. I lean heavily toward console gaming, but have played my share of PC games, as well. I have a strong fascination for MMOGs, I just don’t have the time (or dedication) to play any one MMO for more than a few months. I’ve played a lot of them, though, from EQ1 to Planetside to Neocron all the way to EVE Online (and a bunch in between). I’m proud (and sad) to admit that I’ve never played World of Warcraft. I would be destitute and alone if I ever do. I’ve played and owned hundreds of console games and have owned just about every Nintendo console made. Some day I’ll own a Wii. For me, PC gaming is a hobby, console gaming is a way of life.

Along with that short introduction, you can also find me all over the web. Here are a few places:

Flickr: Gaming and Personal
My Last.fm profile
My game collection
MySpace (yes, I have a MySpace page. Won’t you be my friend?)
Facebook
Xbox Live Gamertag

I’m sure I’m missing something, so I’ll be adding to this list periodically

If you want to contact me, check out the contact page.

I also maintain two other blogs, a personal/family blog and an Ohio sports blog. You can find them here:

Men of the Scarlet and Gray

So there you have it. A little about me. Probably more than you wanted to know.
