How to Decide Which Star Wars Character You Are Most Like. Basic Instructions nails it again.
Personally, I’ve always thought of myself as Boba Fett, minus the ignominious death.

A while ago, Brinstar mentioned the forthcoming Dragonlance Movie, something that excited me very much. While it would have been AWESOME to the forty-third power if it was done in the style of Lord of the Rings (with Peter Jackson directing, of course) I could take some solace that at least it was being made. It was going to be animated, but that shouldn’t be a handicap. No way they could screw up one of my fondest stories as a kid growing up, right?
Right?
Right?

Continuing the Terminator theme from earlier this week.
I’ve got more stuff to post, including Wii impressions and what-not, I promise. I’ve just been really busy with other projects. Luckily, we supposedly in for a very cold weekend, which is always conducive to blogging and gaming.

I missed the premier yesterday of the Sarah Connor chronicles, but I picked it up today, and I a little reading got me up to speed. So here’s my quick review:
As a ginormous Terminator fan, I’m not totally offended. Entertained, even.

In my never ending quest to find high quality web-comics, I present one I recently came upon: Wondermark. The video game references earns extra bonus points, but that’s just icing on the cake. You should be reading this one if you aren’t already.

We had a crazy weekend of winter weather here in central Ohio (if you caught a glimpse of the Browns/Bills game on Sunday, that’s a little glimpse we had here on Saturday) but there were lots going on at the Casa Buttonmashing.
Even with the horrible weather conditions, my brother-in-law (here on referred to as the BIL) and I still braved the nasty roads and made our way to the theater to check out I am Legend. I recently finished the book last month (in preparation for the movie, of course) and was very excited about the movie. I enjoyed it. Will Smith does a great job of playing Robert Neville, a man all alone. People are giving the movie bad marks, saying it isn’t like the book. This isn’t fair. The movie, in my mind, is a reimagination of the book. There are a lot of similarities, but things happen in the movie that don’t happen in the book. That is not an indictment of the movie, though. It still explores many of the same concepts the book does: solitude, companionship, despair, horror. They’re all there and they’re done very well. Maybe a little heavy on some of the CGI and some of Will Smith being Will Smith, but it all works in the end. I wasn’t a huge fan of the way the movie ends, but it was still somewhat true to the overall theme of the book.
I give I am Legend a thumbs up
I got an early christmas present from the Sis and BIL, hooking me up with Age of Empires DS. I had played it previously but never made much headway in the actual campaigns. It’s great turn-based strategy goodness and I’m looking forward to some more time with the game.
I’m still playing Mass Effect – Impressions will be up soon. I am loving this game.
Finally, a hand update: I am able to play games now, (obviously) but I haven’t braved anything fast-paced (read: Halo 3 on Live). I’ve been training my hand with Geometry Wars but I really want to get back to some Halo 3 multiplayer. I was really enjoying it before the “incident” and was having a pretty good go at 2v2 matches with n0wak. Now that the BIL will be back on Live, I should be back and fully operational rather soon.
On a side (and perhaps gross) note, I was instructed by my doctor to begin doing some therapy on my fingers, so scar tissue doesn’t build up or my tendons tighten up. Well today I was working my pinkie finger, which wasn’t bending very far before it got tight and painful. The therapy consisted of bending the individual fingers until it got uncomfortable and then holding it at that point for a ten count. Well today, while doing said exercise, I felt and faintly heard something tear. Actually, it felt more like something gave out. The sound it made is hard to replicate, but it didn’t sound normal and I got a pit in my stomach, thinking I had done something bad. I can still move the finger just fine, but now I’m nervous to do my stretching again.
So, how was your weekend? Any torn tendons? 🙂

You may have heard that the current Writer’s Guild strike may adversely affect this season’s installment of 24. Hopefully this will lessen the blow:

Sure, we play video games (we mash buttons, after all) but we also consume other forms of entertainment. We’re built for consumption. Here’s what we’re chomping on:
Tony:
Books:
I had a pretty good thing going while I was working on my “reading list.” I finished Stranger in a Strange Land and moved on to Ender’s Game, which was superb. Then I got sidetracked: I was going to start Snow Crash when I decided to read I Am Legend to get ready for the movie. But before my name came up on the wait-list at the library for Legend, I started reading Getting Things Done. Funny (or ironic, depending on your point of view) thing is that I haven’t finished reading GTD yet. It is on one of my “lists.” I’m just about done with it and then I’ll be going back to the reading list.
TV:
My TV viewing has gone down quite a bit. There are still the old standbys of My Name is Earl, The Office, and 30 Rock. 30 Rock is probably my favorite of the three. The only two other shows I watch regularly are Prison Break and The Biggest Loser. Not much else holds my interest right now. Those and any sporting event involving an Ohio team.
Music:
I recently subscribed to last.fm‘s services and can now listen to anything that I’ve “scrobbled.” So I’ve taken to listening to my whole iTunes library to scrobble everything I have. I started with at the top of my library with Aaron Neville and have listened all the way through to Gwen Stefani (what?). Along the way, I’ve rediscovered some great tracks that I haven’t listened to in a long time, like Alice in Chains. Jar of Flies was one of my favorite albums, and it was great listening to it again, start to finish. That’s some great music.
Nat:
Books:
I’ve also been putting words into my brain. I’m currently reading Schulz and Peanuts: A Biography by David Michaelis. At only twenty some odd pages in I find it to be fascinating about the creator behind one of the funniest and most poignant comic strips ever. (For a review by Bill Watterson, the creator of Calvin & Hobbes, who almost does nothing publicly any more, check out the Wall Street Journal Online).
I’m also getting ready to start on Soon I Will Be Invincible by Austin Grossman. It’s a superhero book with an interesting twist: it’s told from the side of the villain and from the side of a new girl superhero who is getting ready to join a superhero group. If only Barnes & Noble would get the thing in. I have an Audible Gold Account so I’ve already downloaded the audio and I’m waiting for the book to come in to listen along to it while reading.
TV:
I’m actually looking forward to the writers strike halting TV for a while. The only thing I’ve been catching regularly (with the wife)
is Heroes. It’s just now starting to look up. I was worried they would tell the same story as season 1 there for a while. We’re also
catching Scrubs when we can. However, it’s not too much of a biggie. I know it’ll be on DVD eventually. We’ve been watching all the seasons on DVD from Netflix. I’ve never missed an episode, but it’s fun going over them again. My wife and I relate well to the zany characters in the show.
So that’s what we’re consuming. What about you?
