Quantic Dream’s Heavy Rain for the Playstation 3 is a title that tends to have a polarizing effect on gamers. Love it or hate it, it has generated a lot of discussion. Some deride it as a waste of time–a game that holds your hands with a long cutscene advanced by button presses. Others consider [...]

The Road to the Blow

I don’t remember if Sony did this last year, but what is the point to playing a game if you know others are going to cheat? (He who has the most money wins–again.) You’ve already forked over $60 to play and now you’re going to fork over more to advance your play…before you’ve even given [...]

PS3/PSN Problems Make People Cry
March 1st, 2010 · No Comments · News
Bumbling irresponsibility, horrible math, and overall stupidity come to mind
Unless you’ve been living under a video-game rock, original PS3 owners (think “fat”) are experiencing all sorts of problems with their console in what appears to be due to an internal clock bug. My guess is that the system goes all bung-holio because the people at [...]

FGotY 2009 [Playstation 3]
January 6th, 2010 · 4 Comments · Gaming
The Playstation 3 really seemed to come into its own in 2009. Your humble host does not own a PS3, but his blog pals do. Here’s what they had fun with:
Brock – Between playing older PS2 titles on it and working through many of the great exclusives and eventually multiplatform titles, I found my [...]

More of the PSPnogo
October 8th, 2009 · No Comments · Asides, Gaming
Ok, so last week’s PSN’s PSP game release list was maybe the best they’ve ever done. The all-digital handheld system was released last week. It makes sense to have a large release of games. Not big, but there were one or two good titles. You think they would follow that up with another good release [...]

Sony to Its Entire PSP User-base: “Screw you.”
September 24th, 2009 · 4 Comments · Gaming
Sony’s new PSPgo—a system we’ve not talked much about here—is launching next week. It’s basically an all digital version of the PSP. You can only get games for it via a download service—the overpriced, old-game Playstation Network Store.
Here is a firm list of “screw you’s” from Sony to basically anyone who breathes air:
Death to Clamshell Packaging…

…at least for Sony products.
TRANSLATION: This anti-theft practice is just ripe for a lawsuit when grandma slits her wrists open with her new PS3 controller packaging so she can get her Sackboy on.
Kudos for them to try and make it easier.

Trophies Mandatory? About Dang Time
November 21st, 2008 · 3 Comments · Gaming
Was doing my daily browsing of kotaku and found out that Sony is making trophies mandatory for PS3 games come January.
Finally.
I know of many people who choose 360 games over their PS3 counterparts just for achievements alone. I’ve had more fun with my PS3 in the last two months than any other system. Competition is [...]
LittleBigPlanet Levels Being Moderated
November 9th, 2008 · 7 Comments · Gaming
Media Molecule and Sony seems to be deleting user-created levels that feature or copy intellectual property.
Get over it, whiners. Create something unique and original. I’ve specifically avoided anything to do with other IP and game level copying. 99% of it is crap anyway. If I want to play Super Mario Bros., uh, I’ll play SMB.
I’ll [...]
