This is totally unfair, and we should at least be given a readme file to read in the 9 months it takes the game to load.

Name that Game
Think you can “Name that Game” in three beeps or less? I thought I could and only got 12/18. I should probably have my “video game blogger” badge taken away. In my defense, there were a couple that I knew the answer to but thought they were trying to trick me.
Can you do better? Give it a try. (“Someone shot the food.” That is classic stuff!)
So long, farewell!
Well, I thought something was amiss over at render when there weren’t any new posts in a while. Adam has confirmed that render is no more. That’s too bad, render was one of the first gaming blogs I found that I really liked and it’ll be missed.
The Video Game Ombudsman is no more, as well. Luckily he’s only moved shop and he can now be found over at Video Game Media Watch (one mouthful of a name to another! Amen for acronyms!). The name has changed but Kyle says the content should remain pretty constant. That’s a good thing as the VGO was always a good read.
Looks like it’s time to update the Blogline subscriptions! I’ve been needing to do some housekeeping over there anyway.
Wuv, true wuv
Today marks the eighth year the buttonWife and I have been together. I know she doesn’t read buttonmashing very often, but I’ll make sure she sees this one. I hope she knows I love her a bunch!
Happy Anniversary!
Blaming video game fails for murder defense
MSNBC reports that Devin Moore, the “GTA made me do it” Cop Killer, has been convicted of murder. (Seen first at Evil Avatar)
Jack Thompson’s crusade just took a mean one right on the chin. But it shouldn’t be about that buffoon. It should be about a mentally unstable young man who took the lives of 3 people. Hopefully justice will be served.

My life is complete
I am the number one search result for this Google query. My parents would be so proud.
Not good…
This is getting out of hand.
Oh, and Mr. Thompson — put this in your pipe and smoke it.
Update: Rockstar’s press release.
Gamer Dads Rule!
GamerDad is a great site with a lot of great information for the ill-informed parent to educate themself about video games. Josh at Cathode Tan has a great interview with The Gamer Dad himself, Andrew Bub. With all the undeserved attention that video games and violence are getting (maybe some is deserved *cough*Rockstar*cough). The interview is great, read the whole thing. Since I am a “Gamer Dad” myself, I can definitely relate to the issues he raises. My kids aren’t old enough that I have to worry about this stuff yet, but it’s great that Andrew has provided such a helpful resource. And don’t think that because Andrew tells it as it is that he’s a “prude”:
Of course after the kids go to bed I’m all about Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Battlefield 2 baby. When the kids are away, then your friendly neighborhood GamerDad can really play!

Happy Birthday buttonmashing.com!
Today mark’s buttonmashing.com’s one year anniversary. Man, how time flies! I had various ideas of what I wanted buttonmashing.com to be but I settled on the idea of a video-game blog. It all started with a simple post about my intentions with this site (which have morphed over time) and snowballed from there. Although I can certainly recognize good writing, I’ve never considered myself a good writer. Looking over my older posts, however, I have seen a definite improvement. Improving my writing skills has been one of my goals and I hope that continues. I’ve also been fascinated with the blogging phenomenon and I’m glad to be a part of it, small as buttonmashing.com may be. I’m not really sure where video game blogging fits in to the “blogosphere” but I think it has had at least some effect. I have also noticed that there’s been an increase of video game bloggers, which can only be a good thing.
First, I want to give a big thanks to everyone who’s visited, commented, vented, whatever, here at buttonmashing. It’s been fun reading what others have to say and what others think about this medium we all love. It really is a great community, fanboys and all.
Even though I caught flak for using numbers for a measure of success, I’m gonna do it again. In addition to the numbers below, one measure that can’t be put into statistics is the fun I’ve had. Buttonmashing.com has been a lot of work but it’s been a lot of fun, a great release, if you will. Buttonmashing.com originally started out on Blogger, which was a good starting point but I eventually wanted something more. The move to WordPress has been the easiest switch and I am impressed on a daily basis by the support WP gets. From plug-ins to security to comment spam protection (Bless SpamKarma2) WP is the best blogging software out there. With that, on to the numbers:
Posts – 212
Comments – 206
Page Views – 25,825
Unique Visitors – 16,590
Controversies Started – 1 (that I’m aware of)
So it’s been a wild, fun, first year. Starting the Carnival of Gamers has been a treat and I’ve “met” a lot of great bloggers and gamers out there. I hope buttonmashing has provided at least some form of entertainment and information to you, the reader. Thanks again to everyone who’s stopped in and here’s to another year of button mashing!
