Holiday Weekend Gaming

December 20, 2013 by Tony 3 Comments

While it’s not quite yet the holiday season, the next week or so will definitely involve a lot of gaming around the buttonmashing household (two of the kids will be getting 3DS XLs, bringing the household total to four, plus there’s an outside chance dad buys the kids (read: himself) a Wii U). I assume if you’re reading this that gaming will be going on in your neck of the woods, too. Couple that with the evil Holiday Steam Sale (I already picked these up) that gaming is on everyone’s mind.

So what will you be playing this week(end)? I’m still in a loving relationship with Super Meat Boy, I simply can’t get enough. I also hope to get a little more Halo 4 in while the kids are away. When we travel home for the holidays, I’ll be taking my laptop along with me to work through my Steam list, including Monaco. It’s a good thing I have this rugged computer to tote around with me, but it hasn’t been the most “portable” of devices. I’ll be working up a post along the lines of my laptop-as-a-main-computer experience, as well. So I guess I’ll be adding “writing and blogging” to some of the gaming I’ll be doing this weekend.

I also picked myself up something a little special for my 3DS but I’m going to wait until the 25th to crack into it, since it’s the only gift I’ll be getting this year.

What about you? What are you holiday gaming plans?

If you live anywhere in the midwest, you’re currently in the middle of Snowmageddon 2013 (I think it’s called Winter Storm Cleon or something? Who decided that it would be cool to name storms?) Anyway…

It’s been a while since I’ve checked in to see what everyone is playing, but I thought being snowed in is a perfect time to talk about games they’re playing. Since I am still stuck in the last generation, I don’t have anything new to talk about. I even resisted the latest Steam Sale. So I’m working on my backlog. I’m ashamed to say that I have finally gotten around to play some Super Meat Boy and I’m really disappointed it’s taken me this long. This game is great. I think it warrants a post, but for now I’ll just say this: this game is so pixel perfect it makes me smile on a regular basis. And it’s “easy” enough that my two boys are hooked, too. Super Meat Boy will probably take up the bulk of my gaming time this weekend.

If I have time besides that, I am going to download the new Zelda game for the 3DS. I’ve read and heard so much about it that I have to play it. It’s been too long since I’ve played a Zelda game.

This week is a bye week for the Buckeyes, so I plan on having a little more free time this weekend to get in some gaming. I recently fired up my Xbox, updated Borderlands 2 (including downloading the newest DLC that came out a while ago) and then I started playing State of Decay. So now I have the urge to play some more Xbox. I felt like I had let my survivors down, that they were still holed up in that crumbling church, waiting for someone to save them. So this weekend I think I’m going to put some more time in State of Decay. It feels like I might be getting close to the end, but I’m not ready to be done just yet. I feel like I’ve only explored half of the map. So much more to do!

I’d also like to get back to Borderlands and finish up the last two DLC’s. I sort of petered out with my co-op partner over the summer, so I hope to get back to that this weekend.

I have been absent around these parts for far too long, so a big thanks goes out to Nick for holding the fort down with some regular posting. I’m still trying to encourage him to post his enstrangement from EVE, but the wound may be too close to the surface at the moment.

This weekend is my last weekend before college football starts, which is usually a turning point for my gaming time, as weekends are spent watching hours of college football (much to my wife’s dismay, I’m sure).

So I hope to cram in some serious gaming this weekend. I’d like to finish Bioshock Infinite and get a little more time with State of Decay. I’m still playing Animal Crossing on the 3DS, so there’s that, too. Oh, and the two free games from Microsoft (Crackdwon and Dead Rising 2) have me a little nostalgic so I’ve gone back to Fortune City for a little zombie slaying, so there will be that, as well.

It’s the weekend!

Another weekend of gaming looms before us. What to play, what to play. Right now EVE Online is on the backburner for me. I still get on to adjust my training queue and check my market orders, but for the most part I have neglected EVE for the better part of two weeks now. But other games have filled the void…

I’ve picked up where I left off on a few games, specifically Diablo 3 and The Walking Dead. I’m somewhere in Episode 3 of The Walking Dead and things are unraveling FAST. This is not going to end well. I also started playing Torchlight 2 but I really haven’t had much time to devote to that.

The biggest addition to my gaming pile has been League of Legends. I dabbled with Dota 2 last month for a little while and I can totally see its allure but it never grabbed me. Then James said he and some of his friends had been playing LoL, so I fired it up and have been enjoying it. I’m still quite the noob, but I’m enjoying it. Anyone else here play League of Legends?

These have been quiet around these parts (Thanks, Nick, for keeping the lights on) lately, but we’re still getting our gaming in when we can. It has been a bit of a struggle for the buttonmasher family to do much because our prime-time gaming time is on the weekends, and the past two month’s worth of weekends have been mostly spent on a remodeling project, completely redoing our master bathroom. BUT! The end is in sight, and this weekend has the potential to be the last weekend of remodeling. Fingers are crossed! (Of course soccer games and other extra-curricular activities keep us busy, but not that busy).

So while gaming will hopefully pick up in the coming weeks, this week will probably light again. But I will definitely find time to get back to New Eden and to EVE Online. I recently discovered I was “doing it wrong” with my current Cruiser Build (a Minmatar Stabber) (“A fun ship to fly, but not a terribly effective one” according to EVE University) so I am anxious to try my new build before I move on to my Minmatar Rupture (“Star of the cruisers“).

If there’s time, I’m still waist-deep in Bioshock Infinite and would really like to make more progress in that. Oh, and there will probably be quite a bit of Kingdom Rush on the iPhone.

Another weekend is here, ripe for the gaming. While I have some items on my “honey-do” list to work on this weekend, I should also have a little time to get in some quality gaming. Of course, there will be EVE played. I’ve got a new skill coming to my business skill tree, which means I can place more orders which means more ISK is there to be made. I’m looking forward to that.

I also need to get back to Lee and Clementine. The stuff is about to hit the fan again, I just know it. For now I have to make some decisions about who to tell my back story. I have been thinking about this for days and still don’t know to whom I’m going to spill my beans to. But I’m sure it’s going to be a load of my chest.

If there’s any more time left over, I need to show my Xbox that I haven’t forgotten about it.

So I am still stuck in New Eden. I have a plethora of other games (including a The Walking Dead save right near the end of episode 1) waiting for me to pay them attention but I still can’t break away from EVE Online. It’s weird that this game, which I stopped playing almost six years ago, has gripped me with such furor once again. I am all-in. I have even recreated my old spreadsheets to aid me in my quest for galaxian domination. It’s bad, guys. I need help.

If I can pull myself away from EVE, I will get back to the aforementioned The Walking Dead and the new DLC in Borderlands 2. I’ve got 20+ Golden Keys burning a hole in my Assassin’s pocket right now.

Weekend Holiday Gaming

December 21, 2012 by Tony Leave a Comment

We’re coming up on what for most people in the U.S. will be an extended Holiday weekend, a time when many will be celebrating their winter holiday of choice (for us, it’s Christmas) and exchanging gifts, visiting with family and, for us gamers, increasing the stack of games to be played in the upcoming year.

I usually use the week between Christmas and New Years to catch up on all the games I’ve started or wanted to play during the year. It’s also at this time when I think back about what games were my favorite games to play, or as we call them around here, Fun Game of the Year. So I’ve got a lot of work ahead of me to at least sample everything I know came out this year that was high quality.

So as far as stacking games, I’ll be adding a whole new console to our family’s repetoire (we’ll get to that in a later post) and adding games to my Steam library during the dreaded Steam Sale. But I’ll also be heading out of town for a while, so that will limit what I can play to portable devices and my laptop (which is anything but) portable.

When I get back, I’d like to finally wrap up Mass Effect 3 (and all its DLC), the Mr. Torgue DLC for Borderlands 2, The Walking Dead and Deus Ex. And maybe, just maybe reactivate my EVE Online account. GULP.

But for now, I’m keeping it simple over the weekend. I hope to get a little PC gaming in during the Holiday downtime including more Diablo 3 and my huge Steam library. What will you be playing?

Another weekend is upon us! This one snuck up on me all of a sudden. This weekend is a bye week for both of my football teams, so I’m looking at quite a bit of gaming time.

Borderlands 2 continues to consume the bulk of my gaming time, but I think (at least Mordecai told me) that we are gearing up for the final mission. That means that we either barrel through and finish up the game (until more DLC drops) or we become completionists and start mopping up all the side-quests (even the level 5 stuff we forgot to do weeks ago). With Halo 4 already out, I have a feeling we’ll be finishing up Borderlands 2 sooner rather than later.

When the main TV isn’t available for 360’ing, I plan on doing a little PC gaming. Maybe hop back into Diablo 3 for a look around or maybe something unplayed in Steam.

What gaming are you doing this weekend?
