Carnival of Gamers

Carnival goes Big-Top

January 16, 2006 by Tony 6 Comments

The time has come to start thinking about the next Carnival of Gamers. This coming Carnival will be held under the proverbial Big-Top in February, at the venerable Slashdot Games. While I hope anyone interested in submitting something for the Carnival of Gamers would participate in any Carnival, having the Carnival at Slashdot is pretty unique. I’m not sure if Zonk will post to the front page of Slashdot or simply the Games page, but regardless, it will get in front of a lot of eyes and will be a chance for a lot of new people to read your stuff. Very exciting.

While he hasn’t said this directly, I’m assuming that Zonk will also have to do some moderating of the submissions (which hasn’t happened to this point) because it will be a reflection of Slashdot as well. That’s not to say he’ll reject anything, I just think he would want the submissions to be of a certain quality and content. I don’t think this has been a problem in the past, but with the exposure this Carnival will get, I’m sure he’ll have to cull some of the riff-raff. (I’ll have to get a definitive answer on this topic). Don’t let that prevent you from submitting something from your blog, though! I hope everyone who has participated in the Carnival in the past will continue to do so and hopefully we’ll get some more regulars to tag along!

Carnival #10

January 5, 2006 by Tony 4 Comments

The Carnival of Gamers #10 is up at Kill Ten Rats.

You can digg this here.

Slashdot linked to the Carnival, highlighting Jeffool’s entry, which I also think was great. From the comments, it looks like this Carnival was a little more well received than the original. Which is good to hear, since Slashdot will be hosting the next Carnival.

Update: Just a quick update. The Unbeliever, blogging at the delightfully unsavoury (his words, not mine) MMODIG, has graciously volunteered to host the April edition of the Carnival. You can find all the Carnival information, as always, at the Carnival HQ.

There’s only a day or so to get your Carnival submission over to Ethic at Kill Ten Rats. Don’t be left behind!

Carnival Goodies

December 14, 2005 by Tony 3 Comments

While it’s barely the middle of December, it’s never too late to start thinking about the first Carnival of Gamers of 2006, held over at Kill Ten Rats. Ethic will be handling the Carnival duties and it should be another great stop. Hopefully the Holidays won’t interfere too much with your blogging and everyone will be able to submit something.

I also have some cool news for future Carnivals. Zonk, the Games editor at Slashdot has agreed to host the February edition of the Carnival. Zonk linked the original Carnival and has been following it ever since. I’m pretty excited about this. Having the all the Carnival entries listed on Slashdot is a pretty cool thing.

We also have Virgin Worlds signed up to handle the March Carnival. Virgin Worlds is a new-ish MMO blog that looks promising and has graciously volunteered his time for Carnival duties.

It looked like the Carnival was losing steam for a while, but it has really picked up as of late, which is pretty cool. Thanks to everyone who has helped out or participated. It’s been fun so far, here’s to hoping it continues!

Is now up, looking great as ever.

If you’re a Digg user, here’s the Digg link.

Update: I was pleasantly surprised at the turn out of this, the last Carnival of 2005. The guys at TGC did a great job, hopefully they’ll be up for another round in the future. The next Carnival stop is at Kill Ten Rats. After that, the schedule is wide open. Are you interested? Drop me a line!

More Carnival goodness!

November 2, 2005 by Tony Leave a Comment

At the request of a commenter at the last Carnival, I’ve gone through the process of including the Carnival of Gamers into the Carnival Submission Form at Conservative Cat. It’s now official, in addition to sending your Carnival submission to the carniegrue-at-gmail.com, you can now use the Carnival Submission Form for your Carnival participation purposes. The HQ FAQ has been updated to reflect this addition.

Now you have no excuse not to partake in the Carnival goodies!

Come join the Carnival

October 25, 2005 by Tony 2 Comments

Don’t look now, but the Carnival of Gamers #8 is just around the corner. The Carnival will be hosted over at Aeropause, so get your entries submitted right away. You can get all your Carnival info from the HQ page. Also, if you’re interested, you could take peterb’s challenge to review a IFComp game and submit that as your Carnival post.

I also noticed the Instapundit linked October’s Carnival, so I’m sure the participants will see an uptick in their traffic today (I know I am). It’s a little late but better late than never. Glenn Reynolds is a blogging machine, I have no idea how he can keep up with all he does. Thanks for the link, Insta! (Is that his first blog name?)

Also, we’re still looking for new volunteers for Carnival Hosts! The Game Chair has stepped up to the plate for December, will your blog be next?

I missed the chance to join this month’s Roundtable Discussion, but Corvus has the goods at his site.

Carnival of Gamers #7

Is up!

I thought Jason did a good job with the Carnival. What I liked about this one was that there were a handful of entries that this was their first Carnival. I laughed my butt off with Doner Kebab and his experience with playing SOCOM II online. This statement is probably true for a lot of people:

My experience with this game pretty much explains why online gaming is dead for the “casual gamer”.

Of course, I can’t pass up quoting something like this:

8:41pm I swear off SOCOM II forever. I want my Doom back.
8:45pm I swear off the gaming press forever. No more Xbox 360 ambitions. The next $300 of my gaming budget are going to a Gamecube and something fun to play. See you online at the card table, I’m taking my toys and going home.

Awesome.

So yeah, I enjoyed another Carnival. I’m impressed that this is still going strong. We’ve got Aeropause hosting next month’s Carnival and The Game Chair volunteered to host the Carnival in December. May the Carnivaling keep on trucking!
