Week(end) of Gaming

May 15, 2009 by Tony 7 Comments

I was on a long, two-week business trip that pretty much took me out of the gaming game. But the upside of the long business trip was that I get a week of free time afterward. So I’ve had a chance this week to get in a little gaming.

But now that the weekend is here, I hope to get in a little more. I’ve got the games I just mentioned to play, plus some Fallout 3 and some GTA mixed in there for good measure. Oh, and there looks to be some really good weather, so I’ll be spending some time outdoors as well.

What’s on your plate for this weekend of gaming?

What dies in Vegas

April 29, 2009 by Tony 4 Comments

This is the kind of weapon crafting I can get behind: tying chainsaws to the handlebars of a motorcycle.

This game can’t get into my hands fast enough.

Update: As Nat pointed out, he already posted this yesterday. I blame being on travel (and not checking the feed) for my error, but let’s be honest: This game is going to be awesome and deserves twice the attention.

Blue light special

April 26, 2009 by Tony 8 Comments

Hopefully you’ve already seen it all over the place, but if you haven’t: Best Buy is having a big $9.99 video game sale. Get ye to a store ASAP.

I’m heading out of town this morning to parts unknown (Vermont, actually) and there’s a Best Buy just outside the airport. I may have to stop by and see what’s around.

I’m ultra-cheap when it comes to gaming. No one likes to spend too much. Hopefully this helps someone out. Let us know if you pick anything up!

Amazon XBLA Store

April 23, 2009 by Tony Leave a Comment

It’s been mentioned just about everywhere already, but I want to mention how pumped I am about the arrivale of the Xbox Live Aracade at Amazon.

The reason? Because Amazon gets it. We’ve seen it with Steam (lower a price on something, people buy it) and we’re going to see it with Amazon. They are going to be offering arcade games and points at discount on a regular basis. Just today they’re offering a ten dollar crediton a purchase of 4000 MSP (that’s Microsoft points). That’s free money. I expect to see this trend continue.

This is something to keep a close eye on. We’ll be watching, as well.

Weekend Gaming

April 10, 2009 by Tony 8 Comments

There has been a spat of inactivity around these parts for numerous reasons: Nat was occupied with real life and is working on a new look for the site, Brock is too busy gaming and work for has me planning for extended periods of travel. But with the weekend upon us, we’ll still be gaming.

I finished the GTA IV expansion a couple weeks ago and I really thought I’d dive back into my backlog, maybe Fallout 3, but I got sucked into playing NCAA 09 (the football game) with some friends in an online dynasty and that’s been taking a lot of my time. Sure, I’m six or seven months late to the party, but I’m having a good time with it. So I’ll be playing a little of that and maybe finish up Fallout 3 this weekend. And in my spare time, we’ll sprinkle in some Disgaea on the DS. That game certainly has it’s hooks in me.

What’s on tap for you this weekend?

Preview – Lux Pain [DS]

March 30, 2009 by Tony 1 Comment

Lux-Pain
Lux Pain

Genre: Adventure
Website: Lux Pain
Developer: Ignition Entertainment
Release Date: March 24, 2009
Buy it from Amazon

Preview:

So what is Lux Pain? Lux Pain is an adventure game on the Nintendo DS that takes place in Kisaragi City where something is going terribly wrong. Worms born of hate are infecting people, causing them to do hateful things. You play Atsuki, looking to avenge your parents, who were on the receiving end of said hateful things.

That might sound like your typical game set-up, but Lux Pain is more than that. The game uses the DS touch screen in some pretty interesting ways to interact with the game, including dissecting these terrible brain worms. Sounds delightful. Here’s a partial list of the game play:

  • Investigate your surroundings and gather hints by conversing with characters in the game
  • Use your Psychic Powers to save potential victims from Silent Worms.
  • Explore the massive world of Kisaragi City
  • Use your stylus to:
  • Conduct autopsies of Silent worms found throughout the game
  • Find parasites before they reach the heart of the victim
  • Examine various items you encounter along your journey such as buildings and objects

I’ve posted some images and screenshots on Flickr. You can see the trailer video after the jump.

Brock will be providing us a review. Look for it soon.

Periodic Table of Video Games

March 24, 2009 by Tony 1 Comment

Niko Bellic, get it?I didn’t find this until recently and wanted to share it, but I couldn’t access my site yesterday (lame, I know). So now I can present to you a link to the Periodic Table of Video Games. It’s pretty much as awesome as it sounds. A lot of clever thought went into this one.

I can name almost all of them.
