In My Digital Hands (and Weekend Gaming)

June 21, 2013 by Tony 2 Comments

Recently it seems like the only thing that has turned my crank, video game-wise, has been zombies. It wasn’t supposed to be this way, but The Walking Dead had me going for a while (more on that soon) and then all I heard about was how engaging State of Decay was. Even though my Xbox 360 has started to accumulate a layer of dust, I decided to give it a try.

So this what I’ll be playing this weekend, along with Animal Crossing New Leaf on the 3DS. If there’s time, I’ll get in a game of Infinite Crisis or League of Legends, but right now I think I’d rather be scavenging an abandoned diner for something to eat before the “Zeds” arrive than just about anything else.

What will you be playing this weekend?

In My Digital Hands

July 21, 2012 by Tony 2 Comments

This has been in my digital hands since Nat turned me on to this game almost three years ago, but the love has been reborn on the Xbox and I’m having a blast with this one, too.

If I was ambitious, I’d also list all the games I’ve been grabbing in the Steam Sale, but I’ve only added a few this time around. I am still holding out on buying The Walking Dead, but my willpower is running out.

My backlog, however, is not…

Loot Ninja

March 21, 2011 by Tony 3 Comments

So I’ve been putting in a lot of time with Torchlight on the Xbox 360 (a post is forthcoming) and I started to notice that I have a distinct looting “style.” So I was wondering, what type of looter are you?

Me, I’m a wait until the inventory is full before I delve in. I don’t know why. Sometimes I wait until I’ve reached the end of a level. But whatever comes first, of course. I identify everything magic, equip what I can wear and send everything to town to be sold. I know that is mostly specific to Torchlight since I can send my pet back to town loaded up with all the extra loot to

Do you immediately inspect the item as soon as you pick it up? Or do you wait until your inventory fills up to examine your booty? Or do you even pick everything up? Do you just ignore everything you already know you won’t use and just grab what suits your fancy?

Amazon XBLA Store

April 23, 2009 by Tony Leave a Comment

It’s been mentioned just about everywhere already, but I want to mention how pumped I am about the arrivale of the Xbox Live Aracade at Amazon.

The reason? Because Amazon gets it. We’ve seen it with Steam (lower a price on something, people buy it) and we’re going to see it with Amazon. They are going to be offering arcade games and points at discount on a regular basis. Just today they’re offering a ten dollar crediton a purchase of 4000 MSP (that’s Microsoft points). That’s free money. I expect to see this trend continue.

This is something to keep a close eye on. We’ll be watching, as well.

Microsoft’s X06 conference

September 27, 2006 by Tony 3 Comments

I am insanely jealous of those that are in Spain to cover the X06 conference in Barcelona. Spain in my favoritest place in the world ever and I would love to return and soak in its gloriousness.

Enough of that, let’s get to the meat of the conference. Dealing with Microsoft’s future plans, there is a lot to digest. You can read the full press release here.

What I’m excited about:

An RTS, based on the Halo Universe, built by Ensemble Studios? Yes, please! Halo will transition perfectly into an RTS — the units are balanced but different, Heroes (Master Chief, The Arbiter) are built in, an entire back story, everything. I’m nervous about an RTS on the 360, but I’m still excited.

Forza 2 cannot get here soon enough. I’m still playing Forza on my 360 any chance I get.

Peter Jackson (and Fran Walsh) working with Bungie Studios is an interesting pairing. I’ll reserve my judgement on that for now.

I’m not sure how I feel about DOOM on XBox Live Arcade. I love Doom. My first online (modem to modem, actually) gaming experience was with Doom. Some of my favorite gaming memories are playing Doom with a friend at night, hearing his chainsaw roaring in the background, stalking me. But that was twelve years ago. I’m not sure how it will translate on Live. Split-screen co-op and deathmatch could be fantastic, however.

Microsoft is definitely delivering on some quality items right now. Good for them.
