Deals of the Day

November 12, 2007 by Tony Leave a Comment

Just a quick note that I’ve added a new widget that highlights the Amazon.com Deal of the Day from their Video Game Section. It’s not a great deal every day, but every so often the DotD is quite a steal. Not everyone remembers to check the deal everyday so hopefully this will help someone find what they’ve been looking for.

Plus, with the holidays just around the corner, you never know when inspiration will strike.

Yeewouch!

November 10, 2007 by Tony 17 Comments

After a series of unfortunate events that involved my fist and a hard surface, I have to postpone gaming for the next few weeks. Hopefully I will be able to do some kind of gaming, maybe something easy on the DS, but my ascension up the Halo 3 ranks will have to wait a little while.

Broken!

Uggh. This is not the best thing that could have happened today. My Buckeyes lost a heart-breaker this afternoon and I had to spend time at the urgent care center this evening. I guess the bright side of all of this is that I’ll have more time for blogging. That’s something, right?

Wednesday night musings

October 17, 2007 by Tony 1 Comment

Since there aren’t any sporting events going on this evening (no college football games of note, the Indians have a day off, and who wants to watch pre-season NBA?) I’m working on some blog items, mostly updating plug-ins and playing around with their settings. A day doesn’t go by that I don’t totally *heart* WordPress.

I also have a couple other items to get to: For the time being, we won’t be hearing much from my newest co-blogger, Dark Reyule. He’s taking a break from gaming and blogging isn’t an option at the moment. I told him he’s still very much welcome around these parts, so hopefully he’ll still drop by once and a while. So the blogging will be coming primarily from me and Nat for the foreseeable future.

I’m also going through a bunch of drafts and stubs of posts I have sitting in various degrees of completion, so there may be the occasional post with some “older” content. Hopefully it will still be relevant in some way. The blogging will continue, even if morale doesn’t improve.

As for the musings: Anyone here listen to Major Nelson’s podcast? If so, is it just me, or has the podcast’s quality declined lately? When Major and his co-host “e” are talking about things like their latest travels or other minutia, I lose all interest. Their conversations also have an “inside joke” feel, but not everyone is in on it. This was something that turned me off of the Evil Avatar Radio podcast. I want to hear about games! Not how exciting your company retreat was! I don’t care who you saw at the Halo 3 launch. Tell me about the actual game. I do love when he interviews people in the “industry,” however. The interview with Marty O’Donnell was top-shelf. I love the music from the Halo Trilogy and hearing Marty talk about it was a treat. Get back to the games, Major.

I would also like to mention that the Halo 3 theater rocks. That is (not) all. More on that later.

Amazing Game Moments

October 1, 2007 by Tony 5 Comments

Megatonik discusses some of the best gaming moments they’ve experienced.

As for me, I would have to go with Zelda: Wind Waker. The most vivid memory I have was at the point in the game where you go underwater, to the submerged, lost Hyrule Castle. Everything was beautiful about that place — the art, the stained glass, everything was absolutely glorious. Couple that with the haunting music that softly accompanied your exploration and the lonely guards you had to dispatch, and this was one of the most amazing game moments I’ve had. Even though Zelda isn’t my favorite Gamecube game (Resident Evil 4 and Metroid Prime vie for that honor), Zelda had some of the most breathtaking moments to experience.

What about you? What was the moment that took your breath away?

More Batteries

September 23, 2007 by Tony 1 Comment

USB BatteryI’m not trying to turn this into the battery blog, but I’ve been sitting on this post for a while and now the time seemed right. A friend (I believe it was the Bobster) sent me a link to a company selling a very clever idea — USB batteries.

One of the complaints about the previous trick I posted is that even if you can get a bunch of batteries cheaply, rechargeable batteries are better because they produce less waste and are more environmentally friendly. I’ve never bought into the enviro-movement myself, but if a product is good, I’m open to the possibilities. The biggest issue I have with using rechargeables is the fact that I’m too lazy to keep a set in the charger. The fact that I could be charging them in my actual Xbox 360 unit is pretty nice. I think this is the perfect battery setup for a 360. A set in the controller and a set charging. As long as the battery has some kind of circuitry to ensure proper charging, these batteries would definitely do the trick.

I may have to try them out.

(I love the product photo they use. Could they seriously not find a working 360 unit? Doesn’t the four read rings mean the video cable is disconnected?)
