Weekend Gaming

October 26, 2012 by Tony 4 Comments

(A little late this afternoon due to being SUPER busy this week. Hopefully you’ll excuse the lack of content, too)

This will be our first weekend of crummy weather in a long time, which is probably marking the beginning of the end of fall and the approach of winter. I always feel more at home gaming when it’s cold outside and gets dark earlier in the day. When are your prime gaming times?

For this week, I think I am getting really close to finishing Borderlands 2. I know I still owe a post or two about my experience with that game, but right now my limited time means either playing the game or writing about it, and you can probably surmise I’ve been playing more than writing. So it will probably be another Borderlands 2 weekend for me. I just started the Pirates Booty DLC and have enjoyed that so far. I really like the new environment and of course all the great new loot.

Speaking of loot, we finished the five rounds in the Creature Slaughter Dome and were rewarded with Moxxxi’s Rocket Launcher which is the equivalent of a personal nuclear device. That will be getting us out of tight situations in the future.

If there’s time outside of the world of Pandora, I’ll probably dive into some PC gaming in my large, mostly unplayed Steam library. What will you be playing?

So what games of the video variety do you think you’ll be playing this weekend?

Me, I am having too much fun right now with Borderlands 2 to consider playing anything else. My Commando partner and I (me, the Assassin Zero) have recently stumbled upon the Creature Slaughter Dome and had an absolute riot rampaging through the first two rounds. I have no idea how we’re going to survive three more rounds of that madness, but we are definitely going to give it a try.

BUT, I will admit that the new additions that Bioware has added to the multiplayer portion of Mass Effect 3 has me itching to get back into some multiplayer ME3. Add in the upcoming Omega DLC has me wanting more.

Oh, and pay no nevermind to those other Grade-A titles coming out all this month. Who has time for that?

It’s going to be another Borderlands 2 weekend for me. I’m actually contemplating an early afternoon of work so I can get some Borderlands 2 in while the kids are at school and I’m actually 100% awake. Being a busy adult sure has cramped my gaming time. It doesn’t help that we’re still trying to keep the kids away from the more violent games and Borderlands 2 definitely ranks up there with all the blood and headshots.

I’m also going to be digging into my Steam pile and possibly some Diablo 3. With all the changes and what not, I figured I’ll keep the lootfest from BL2 going with my Demon Hunter. It’s about time I find my first Legendary!

I’m a little late getting this one out, but this weekend is the first weekend of college football. Which means my gaming will be pretty sparse. But, I hope to get a little gaming in this weekend. I realized after posting the Borderlands 2 trailer, that I still have not beaten the original Borderlands. So I have a couple weeks to rectify that situation. I may get some Borderlands in this weekend if I can pull myself away from college football.

I’ve also been playing a handful of games on my PC and iPhone that I’ll be posting about soon. They all involve one thing: Towers.

Also, I’ll be mentioning this in a post real soon, but we’ve also added a new peripheral to the video gaming rig. So the kids will be wanting to play that whenever they can this weekend.

So, after I transformed into Albert Freaking Einstein and fixed the color wheel on my TV, I am back in business when it comes to the console world. I had a little workaround while my TV was out of commission, using my PC monitor to connect to the Xbox 360, but since my monitor’s resolution was 1920×1200, things looked a little muddy. It will be nice to get back to my normal operations, though, because I had made a bit of progress in Mass Effect 3 and I really want to finish that up. I don’t like leaving the galaxy in the lurch like that!

But, with the Xbox not being an attractive option these past couple weeks, I’ve also taken to a bit of “snacking” from my Steam Library, playing a bit of Age of Empires Online and Defense Grid: The Awakening.

So now my weekend gaming battle station is again fully operational. So I’ll be doing a little bit of everything this weekend.

What are you going to play?

UPDATE: I just noticed that Hero Academy just launched on Steam, so I’ll be adding that to my weekend gaming, starting: NOW.

barbaro-skull-helmThe weekend approaches and I have a pile of games I’d like to play. Sounds perfect, right? How about, then, my TV goes on the fritz. Right before the Olympics and right before my perfect weekend of gaming. Just so you know, this sort of thing pretty much only happens to me. You’re probably safe. You’re TV will be just fine.

Mine? Well, I’ll be calling a service center tomorrow morning with the hopes that he can squeeze me in some time tomorrow. If that’s happens and everything gets fixed, I’ll be working on my NCAA 13 Dynasty and making some progress toward the end of Mass Effect 3. And watching lots of the Olympics.

If that doesn’t happen (it won’t) I will just have to turn to my PC for some entertainment. I’m currently stuck in Act IV Nightmare in Diablo 3, having a tough go against Rakanoth so I’m not exactly anxious to get stomped repeatedly by him. I may call on some of my more powerful friends to help me with him, but we’ll see. I have some new shiny games purchased during the Summer Steam Sale, so I may dive into some of them. The possibilities are limitless!

So we’ve only got two weeks until Diablo III assumes control of all weekend gaming for the next few months (years? decades?). So now is the time to get in the gaming before everything becomes overwhelmed by the flood of Diablo III goodness.

So for me, that will be playing as much Mass Effect 3 as I can squeeze in. I’ve turned a buddy on to the multiplayer aspect, so I expect we’ll be doing a lot of that (gotta buy those Premium Spectre Packs!). Why don’t you join us?

As quickly as the last one ended, the weekend is upon us once again! It’s time to get in some gaming!

Me personally, I have Mass Effect 3 mulitplayer on the brain. I think a large portion of my time this weekend will be spent playing that. If there’s time to get back to the single player game, that’s where I’ll be. But as much fun as I’ve been having with the multiplayer, I don’t see there being much extra time. If I get some PC time, it will probably be spent playing Vindictus or Atlantica. And possibly checking out Dragon’s Nest. But it will most likely be Mass Effect 3.

Which brings me to a moment of reflection, a confession if you will. Up to this point, I have never paid “real money” for in-game items I can “earn” through regular playing. I get the idea of microtransactions in online games (and actually welcome them) but I have always limited my purchases to things that couldn’t be gotten through normal play of the game. Things like extra character slots, extra storage space and the like. But the ME3 “booster packs” have their hooks into me big time and it’s real tempting to drop some Microsoft Space Bucks on that Premium Spectre Pack instead of putting in the time to earn those 99,000 credits.

REAL tempting.

So I’ll br trying to resist the temptation of instant gratification. What will you be playing?

Winter has finally settled in around here in Central Ohio, so it’s perfect gaming weather. Unfortunately, it’s also birthday season around these parts so I haven’t had a ton of gaming time. But I’m hoping to get something in this weekend.

My time has been mostly spent in Skyrim. I’m nearing the 110 hour mark (gulp) and I’ve been enjoying this game thoroughly. I imagine my time will be spent this weekend playing that. I also started playing Orcs Must Die on my new laptop and have been grinning ear to ear as I watch my spring traps launch orcs into acid baths. This game is a riot. When I only have that moment or two available for a game, I’ve been absorbed with Puzzlejuice, Temple Run, TripleTown and Hero Academy on the iPhone. (I’m i_aint_yer_pa on Hero Academy if you want to play a game!)

With hopefully a new pile of games (either from the holidays or the Steam Sale) hopefully everyone has something to play. Me? Probably just Skyrim. Boring, I know. I may play something new on Steam for a project I’m going to start, but for now all I’m comitting to is some more Skyrim.
