Game Complete: Resident Evil 8 (and an RE Ranking)

March 24, 2023 by Tony Leave a Comment

I started this post last year, after I finished Resident Evil 8. Now that it’s sit in the Drafts folder for months, I figured I should finish it up before the next Resident Evil release drops this week. And boy oh boy what a drop that is going to be — the remake of one of the best video games I have ever played — Resident Evil 4. Excitement for RE4 Remake is at an all time high around the buttonmashing household.

But first, a quick review of Resident Evil 8. After two VERY solid remakes, RE2 and RE3, RE8 is a continuation of Resident Evil 7, another of my favorite Resident Evils. It took a little bit to get used to the first person mode after going back to 3rd person for the remakes. Overall, RE8 was a really good game. The story was another bonkers Resident Evil storyline, complete with rounding up trinkets and items to solve puzzles and move the story along but this time the “trinkets” were actually pieces of your daughter, dismembered and preserved in jars littered throughout the spooky village.

Yep. And then things get weirder. Your previously murdered wife wasn’t your wife, you have been dead since RE7 (you really didn’t think you reattached your hand when the tall, pale vampire lady sliced it off, did you?) and your daughter is supernatural. So ya, another bonkers Resident Evil storyline. It’s why we love them so much.

So having finished Resident Evil Village and before diving back into RE4 again, I thought I’d post my rankings of all the Resident Evil games I’ve played.

Resident Evil Rankings:

  1. Resident Evil 4 (Gamecube, PC)
  2. Resident Evil 7 (PC)
  3. Resident Evil 2 REmake (PC)
  4. Resident Evil 8 (PC)
  5. Resident Evil 3 REmake (PC)
  6. Resident Evil REmake (GameCube)
  7. Resident Evil 5 (Xbox 360)
  8. Resident Evil Revelations (PC, in progress)
  9. Resident Evil 0 (GameCube)
  10. Resident Evil Resistance (PC)

Haven’t played yet: Resident Evil – Code Veronica, Resident Evil Revelations 2 (and too many spin-offs/mobile games to list)

And with that, it’s time to get ready to go back to the remote Spanish village where it all began…

In My Hands

May 11, 2021 by Tony Leave a Comment

Wow, it’s been a while since a post has gone up around these parts. Video gaming is still happening, just at a less frequent rate. Either way, the Resident Evil train doesn’t stop and we’ve got another entry in the main story line, which means a new copy is safely resting in my hands (one of which is going to be sliced off, unbeknownst to me):

This has actually been in my hands since last Friday and so far I’m about three hours in (hence the previous mention of hand loss) and so far it feels like a combo of RE4 and RE7. More thoughts to come.

In My Zombie Killing Hands

What’s this, a new blog post at buttonmashing dot com? It’s true, we are still around, still gaming and most importantly, still Resident Eviling.

Released earlier this year, RE3 reviewed a little less favorably than last year’s REmake, RE2. I thoroughly enjoyed RE2, it was one of the first games that I completed during 2019’s “Year of Completing Games”, so I was quite excited to jump into RE3 and then quite dismayed at the initial reviews. Most reviews said it was still a good game just not as good as RE2, so I cooled my heels until it went on sale. Which it did this weekend, so here we are.

With the game. In my hands. Time to dive in!

In My Digital Hands

January 24, 2017 by Tony Leave a Comment

I didn’t get in on the ground floor with the Resident Evil series. My first foray into the series was the RE remake on the Gamecube but I never finished it. When Resident Evil 4 hit, however, I was instantly hooked and RE4 kinda became “my thing” around these parts. I have played through RE4 more times than I can remember on more than one system. The Mercenaries (in RE4) is easily the greatest minigame ever and I will snap your neck H.U.N.K.-style if you say otherwise.

I ran through Resident Evil 5 co-op with my bro-in-law. That was a fine game and all but it didn’t capture the RE4 magic. I skipped Resident Evil 6 altogether (although it’s patiently waiting in my Steam Library for whenever I feel like loading it up). Early buzz has been positive for Resident Evil 7. I am ready.

I am also going to try my hand at this streaming thing. Nick (aka Subotonic on Twitch) has had the Twitch game going for a little while now, but it’s my turn to give it a go. I’ll be doing some late-night RE7 streaming, starting tonight hopefully. If you want to follow along with my antics, throw me a follow on Twitch and turn notifications on. Then tune in and watch me get skurred from all the scary bad guys!
