August Releases

It’s that time again, the long list of monthly releases. Thankfully, July is mercifully bereft of top-tier games, so we can play catch up with all the good gaming that has come out recently.

Week of August 3rd
Brave: A Warrior’s Tale
Fallout 3 Downloadable Content: Mothership Zeta
G.I. JOE: The Rise of Cobra– At first, I was skeptical that the movie was going to stink. Then I was sure of it. Now I’m not so sure. I have the same feeling toward the game.

Week of August 10th
Madden NFL 10– No surprise here that no other games are coming out this week. Madden is a digital force of nature.

Week of August 17th
Raven Squad: Hidden Dagger– This is the first time I’ve even heard of this game. That doesn’t bode well
Wolfenstein

Week of August 24th
Black College Football Xperience: The Doug Williams Edition
Batman: Arkham Asylum– I’m guessing James is pretty excited about this one.

Week of August 3rd
Daisy Fuentes Pilates– I could have listed any number of ho-hum games this week, but I chose this gem to be representative of the week. In other words, it’s full of exercises that make you feel uncomfortable and ultimately are NO FUN.

Week of August 10th
Phantom Brave: We Meet Again– Any NIS game gets a free pass from me. But shouldn’t it be “Phantom Brave: Wii Miit Again”?
Madden NFL 10
Groovin BlocksKlax says hello, from 1989.

Week of August 17th
Sudoku Ball – Detective– Three words I never expected to go together: “Sudoku”, “Ball”, and “Detective”.
Spectrobes: Origins

Week of August 24th
Metroid Prime Trilogy Collector’s Edition– Updated Metroid Prime and MP 2, Wii controls and variable difficulty. It’s like they looked in my brain searching for the perfect Wii release and came up with this. It will be very hard to pass this one up.

… skipping the rest of this week’s dreck. I don’t even know why I list Wii releases.

Wolfenstein– I love the box art for this game.
Plants vs. Zombies– This game has been available on Steam for like ever, so I don’t know why it’s showing up in this month’s releases, but you should be playing it anyway, so if you don’t have it, GET IT.
Midnight Mysteries: The Edgar Allan Poe Conspiracy
Death to Spies: Moment of Truth– This game wins the “ridiculous” box art award for the month. It looks like that man has a microphone at the end of his pistol.

Comments

  1. The only game I’m buying this month is Professor Layton 2. I did snag the Mothership Zeta DLC for Fallout 3 and love what I’ve played so far.

I’ll probably rent Batman or wait until it drops. It looks good but I refuse to drop $60-70 on a game these days.

  2. I agree Brock, I think I’ll try out the demo of Batman when it comes to Live this Friday.

I won’t be picking it up day one or even month one (unless of course the demo makes me go nuts and pay $60 for it).

  3. It looks like Batman will be cheaper. Does that make a difference?

  4. How much cheaper? I doubt it will retail up here for less than $59, though that would at least make it tempting.

I’m saving my major game dollars for Prof. Layton this month and the Persona 1 remake on PSP and Scribblenauts next month.

  5. It’s gonna be about 40 or 45$ on amazon.com I think.

  6. What James said. Hopefully this will be a trend for upcoming, non-AAA titles.
