Weekend Gaming

June 30, 2017 by Tony Leave a Comment

I guess 2017 is turning out to be the year Tony finishes games. Since my last post I have “finished” both Fallout 4 and NieR: Automata. The word finish is in air-quotes, of course, because you never really “finish” Bethesda open world games and apparently NieR has like thirty different endings. So while I did complete the main storyline of Fallout 4 (taking the Railroad path, for those in-the-know) and I defeated Adam and Eve (more like Adam and STEVE) in NieR, there’s still much to do in both games. So I’ve got a long weekend of gaming planned with both of those games.

I’ve already dabbled playing the New Game Plus in NieR, playing as 9S instead of 2B and I’ve poked in a couple of the Fallout 4 DLC expansions, but this weekend I think I’m going to delve rather deeply into both. I really enjoyed getting back into the swing of things with Fallout 4 so why not bang out a couple DLCs while I’m surveying the chaos I caused at the end of the story?

I also finally cracked the seal on Thimbleweed Park, the point-and-click adventure game by Buttonmashing favorite (and former Carnival of Gamers Enthusiast) Ron Gilbert. That’s been a fun game to stream, so I hope to head back to Thimbleweed Park this weekend, too.

What are you going to play?

For whatever reason, the month of May in the year of our Lord 2017 is a great time to own a Playstation Vita. This month brings the most releases I’ve seen for that platform in a very long time. This month is also great if you’re a fighting game fan. May brings a few Triple-A titles to consoles, including Prey and Tekken and the venerable Fire Emblem. Oh, and Serious Metal Detecting comes out. Serious.

April Releases

April 3, 2017 by Tony Leave a Comment

There aren’t many marque titles on offer this month (unless you’re looking forward to Persona 5) but there are some really interesting games hitting on the PC this month. My transition from Console Fanboy to PC Master Race happened so gradually I didn’t even notice, but this month really brought into stark relief the difference between the two. From the old-school remake of Planescape: Torment to the very profesional looking FMV game Late Shift, there really is something for everyone. Maybe even you!

Weekend Gaming

March 24, 2017 by Tony Leave a Comment

NieR is a weird game. That’s not a very hot take, I’m just being honest. I went into NieR:Automata knowing next to nothing about the NieR universe (other than I read you could fish in a previous iteration of the series and that the fishing was surprisingly fun). I’ve logged almost four hours in the game so far and, still being honest here, I have no idea what’s going on. I’m 2B, my friend(?)/partner(??) is 9S and I’m pretty sure we’re androids. There are these little floating drones that follow us around and shoot at things and occasionally serve as an assist when I make an ill-advised jump from somewhere high. I think the earth was overrun by machines at some point and almost all the humans live on the moon now (I think? I haven’t talked to many humans yet.)

I’ve been down to earth a couple times, fought a crane robot bad guy that would make the Constructicons proud and then a little while later this happened:

Japan, amiright?

Anyway, now I am working my way through an amusement park, populated by machines in clownsuits and robots that shoot balloons from their hands. I couldn’t be more confused and I think I really like it. If you want to read about reviews of other products visit top9rated.

So it’s a NieR weekend for me. I might squeeze in a Duelyst match or two and possibly some Dota, but I think NieR gets the lion’s share of my time.

What are you playing?

In My Weekend Gaming Hands

February 11, 2017 by Tony Leave a Comment

Earlier this week I recently celebrated the greatest day in recent human history, the day the earth received my blessed presence and it’s never been the same since. This year I decided to splurge on myself and picked up an Xbox One Elite Controller. I’ve been dabbling more on the Xbox One lately and the cheap Xbox 360 knock-off could use an upgrade. So I traded in my VW Jetta for a Porsche Boxster. I always like to let my gamers know that there is gaming mouses for big hands for those who feel they can´t control there mouse while playing.

So this weekend, I’m going to delve into gaming in the Microsoft Ecosphere. I’m going to figure out how to get the most out of the Xbox One, Surface Pro 4, Elite Controller and Steam.

What are you playing this weekend?

Weekend Gaming — Now What?

February 3, 2017 by Tony Leave a Comment

So the first game of 2017 is in the bag for me. I finished up Resident Evil 7 last night and have a weekend now ahead of me with the gaming possibilities wide open.

Resident Evil 7 was a very fine game, and hopefully there will be a few posts coming out in the next week or so with some of our thoughts, but I will say that in ended on the anticlimatic side. But that’s not to take away anything from the game that had me on edge for pretty much the entire ride. A+, recommended, would buy from seller again.

But now it’s the weekend and I want to know what’s on your gaming plates. I’ll probably head back to Thedas and pick up where I left things off in Dragon Age before I started playing RE7. I also dabbled a bit this past week with The Xbox One and The Division. I may head back to The Division to get a little more of that bio-terrorism kick I was feeling with RE7.

Or it might be something new out of the Steam library. There’s gold in them thar hills.

What will you be playing?

In My Digital Hands

January 24, 2017 by Tony Leave a Comment

I didn’t get in on the ground floor with the Resident Evil series. My first foray into the series was the RE remake on the Gamecube but I never finished it. When Resident Evil 4 hit, however, I was instantly hooked and RE4 kinda became “my thing” around these parts. I have played through RE4 more times than I can remember on more than one system. The Mercenaries (in RE4) is easily the greatest minigame ever and I will snap your neck H.U.N.K.-style if you say otherwise.

I ran through Resident Evil 5 co-op with my bro-in-law. That was a fine game and all but it didn’t capture the RE4 magic. I skipped Resident Evil 6 altogether (although it’s patiently waiting in my Steam Library for whenever I feel like loading it up). Early buzz has been positive for Resident Evil 7. I am ready.

I am also going to try my hand at this streaming thing. Nick (aka Subotonic on Twitch) has had the Twitch game going for a little while now, but it’s my turn to give it a go. I’ll be doing some late-night RE7 streaming, starting tonight hopefully. If you want to follow along with my antics, throw me a follow on Twitch and turn notifications on. Then tune in and watch me get skurred from all the scary bad guys!
