Dibs on the Japanese (whenever they are implemented).
=O!!!!!
I don’t know about you but that was my first thought after watching this video.
Then the skeptic in me decided to show up. It seems that they are talking this game up a lot, I’m really hoping that they can do everything they said because that would be one awesome game.
I think there are a few Guild Wars fans around here, anyone else wanna join up and take out that INSANE looking dragon at the end of the clip? (probably get utterly destroyed actually)
Everquest 2: Extended?
If you haven’t heard. Everquest 2 will be rolling out a new free-to-play service called: “Everquest 2 Extended” or EQ2X for short. Here is a simple view of what is included with the various memberships. Here is the basic information about how the service will work, there is a FAQ here, and the forums here.
What I do want to know is why they named it, “extended” if its actually less than the original game. I guess it could be because it extending the game for free to the masses? Tony and I have dabbled in EQ2 for while and it was a good time however, with all of the games in the marketplace at this point I wonder if EQ2x will have enough draw on new/old players to bring them back to Norrath.
What do you think?
2 Minute Review:Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (Xbox 360)
DO: Smash mindless peons faces’ as just about any of the Marvel universe’s characters.
TYPE: Action RPG
PLATFORM: PS3, PS2, DS, Wii, PSP
PRICE: (was) $60, now…$27.99
MEAT: (Sorry, for the delay) I posted earlier about picking up this game and, I did. Most of the game is basically repeatedly hitting the same buttons over and over in order to get through a level and in that respect, it doesn’t diverge too much from the first in the series. This time around though there are fusion abilities between the characters which change depending on the character that you are using. The main story is that all of the superheroes are being forced to register their real identities with the government or be imprisoned. Most of the plot follows along those lines and the cutscenes are shown with that theme in mind. Something that I couldn’t decide if it was a plus or a minus to the game was that once I got the character I wanted to use (Thor) I basically was playing the game in easy mode and was able to destroy everybody/everything and wasn’t challenged at all. Now this was towards the end of the game but, I couldn’t help but feel like I should have at least gotten the character earlier in order to enjoy it more.
PERKS: The story starts off pretty good with you having to make a choice which side in the “war” you will join and that choice will impact the rest of the game(for example, you will not be able to play certain characters for most of the game). The cutscenes were just as good in this game as the first which is a big bonus for me because I enjoy a good cutscene. Graphics have leveled up!
SCREAMS: Something that wasn’t the greatest idea but, fit the story, was that you had limited options for which characters you could play because of the side you choose to be on. There were characters on both sides that I wanted to play and I had to play through the story until I could get those characters unlocked. More variety of choices in regards to the story line would have been nice and made the game more varied and not so linear after the initial choice.
VERDICT: Rent. I played through the game once and was working on going through it again but decided not to and just traded it in. The graphics definitely have been upgraded from the first and are done really well but, the long distance that the camera gets from the characters really diminishes the detail and doesn’t do the work justice. This game didn’t hold me as much as the first and I honestly can’t say why. Maybe it was because I didn’t have any friends that had a copy too, which, I feel would have made the game more fun.
Halo:Reach
I just wanted to see what those of you out there think about Halo:Reach. I just read some info regarding the Arena and the matchmaking/social aspect of the game. I also watched the multiplayer trailer again, saw this awesome concept art, and I have to tell you, I am starting to get even more interested. Anyone else?
Sad day….
I think this is the end is near for Blockbuster.
Not only are they bringing back late fees, which nobody likes, but they are raising the prices of old releases to 5$. Wow. I thought that they were circling the toilet before.
Team Fortress 2: WAR! Update
I’ll let the Team Fortress 2(TF2) team describe the update themselves.
“So: how is the War update different from our other class updates?
In many ways, it’s not. Like any other class update, the War update will reveal three new weapons each for the Demoman and Soldier throughout the week, as well as some maps, achievements, and surprises, right up until the day of release, when everything we’ve been teasing goes live.”
The best thing about the TF2 developers is that are continuing to release FREE, that’s right, FREE updates. All but 3 of the classes in the game have been updated with new weapons/items, the Soldier, Demoman, and the Engineer. The updates have generally been one class vs another class and both have received their updated weapons.
The War Update is no different in that its all about the Soldier and the Demoman fighting each other. Each class will get at least 3 new weapons, but both classes are fighting through the week for one last weapon that goes to the class with the most kills of the other. So for example; the soldiers have killed 4,666,558 demomen so far and the demomen have killed 4,441,214 soldiers. As of December 14th @ 9:42 PST.
The cool thing about this whole update is that it really has changed peoples attitudes towards the classes. Some of those on “team soldier” and playing as a medic will only heal a soldier and let the demomen die in order to help the soldier win and get the fourth weapon, and vice-versa for the demomen.
The developers of TF2 definitely know what they are doing with this update. They even made a comic of the characters involved in the WAR! update, putting the acquisition of the weapons into art. The demoman has already received 2 of his 3 weapons updates which have been revealed to be The Eyelander and The Chargin’ Targe.
The casualty updates are going to be daily and from now until the end of the week there will be the reveal of what the soldier weapons are and the remaining demoman weapon. Oh, and I can’t forget the coveted 4th weapon which is causing this whole thing in the first place.
Who’ll get it in the end?
Its up to you the player to decide!!!
So get out there and kill kill kill you maggots!
I almost forgot! They are also doing a propaganda contest too! Whoever can create the best propaganda poster for either side will get a one-of-a-kind in-game item with their name on it. Very cool. Second and Third prize winners get something in-game as well, just not as cool as the first prize winner. 25 runner-ups will get the “MANN CO PRIZE PACKAGE, which isnt one-of-a-kind but is nonetheless free.”
This is the kind of stuff that I like to see a developer doing for their game, update the game for free and in doing so feeding their rabid/devout fans.
/raises hand
Guilty as charged.
[Update: THE SOLDIERS WIN!!!!!!! The secret 7th weapon turned out to be “Gunboats” which are shoes that allow for less damage to be received when doing a rocket jump. I enjoyed the update, but I don’t know if I’ve ever had so much anxiety and impatience in waiting for an update to a game. Thanks Valve!]Dark Void – Rocketeer anyone?
I haven’t heard much about Dark Void to be honest with you. I know what it looks like, another 3rd person shooter with a gimmick(the jetpack). When I saw this walkthrough of aerial combat while surfing the gametrailers.com page my interest in the game went up a little bit. The video didn’t show too much in terms of gameplay but, what it did show I liked! The animation is fluid and makes me think that I’m watching a cutscene at some points. It also reminded me of an awesome movie I saw as a kid in 1991, “The Rocketeer”. Not sure how many of you have seen this epic masterpiece, but the trailer of the film will give you a little insight into what the movie was like. Movies have come a long way.
I loved that outfit and the jetpack though, so this game gets bonus points already for reminding me of the rocketeer. Finally I can play a game that has the same feeling that the movie gave me except this time around I’ll be doing the flying.
A posted comment on the aerial walkthrough’s video:

oh man, i can’t wait to see how this turns out![quote]
That sounds about right to me.
Having great animation isn’t going to make a game great by itself though, which makes me interested in seeing how the story is played out. The story so far from what I can gather is that you are Will and you crash land a plane in a jungle at the far corner of the globe somewhere and end up in the “Void”. This is an alternate dimension where the “Watchers” an alien race that look like robots want to take over the Earth, and the “Survivors” humans who are stuck in the void that want to get back home to Earth. The interesting part to the story is that Nikola Tesla was somehow transported into the void through one of his experiments and is there now trying to reverse-engineer the aliens advanced technology to use against them. Hence, the jetpack.
Sounds like a decent setup for a sci-fi action game to me. The release date was pushed back to January 12, 2010 for the PC and PS3.
(If the game turns out to be good my fingers crossed for a 360 version to follow shortly thereafter)
Should I?
I’m thinking of picking up Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 today. I was just planning on trading in some old games that I don’t play anymore to get it. Now, I already have plenty of games to play (can you ever have too many? I say yes, but that will be for another post) and yet I feel like I should pick this game up.
1) I loved the first game in the series (No, I will not marry it Tony.) and I even bought the superhero/villian DLC for it.
2) The graphics look amazing, especially when compared with the first game.
Oh and I need to add that Deadpool looked awesome in this video clip. The animation is fluid and looks really good.
3) FUSION! HAAAaaa…wait wrong universe.
The fusions seem like they are crazy powerful. However, I’ve heard there are some fusion moves that are very simple. The best description of those that I’ve read comes from ign.com, “Meanwhile, a guided fusion puts you in the driver’s seat as you run around clearing clocks — like when Wolverine and Captain America run around side by side mowing bad guys down. With the exception of the jogging attacks like that Cap/Wolvie one, Fusions are pretty cool.”
Now, most aren’t simple like that but they do add a more co-operative feel to the game. Having four people playing together and everyone combining differently to do powerful attacks seems like it would keep things fun.
I’ve read the game is only about 10.5 hrs to complete, but I don’t even remember how many times I’ve played through the first one. I don’t think the game length with be a problem. There is also the new conversations where you chose your response from either aggressive, diplomatic, or defensive. They all happen with an emotionless face of your character as the backdrop. That doesn’t deter me from getting the game, but if it happens every time there is dialogue then it might old real quick.
I’m actually leaning towards getting this(if you couldn’t tell). I would just like to see what the rest of you think about it. Leave a comment.
DC COMICS: Blackest Night
~
No evil shall escape my sight
Let those who worship evil’s might,
Beware my power… Green Lantern’s light!”
~
That blackest night part of the green lantern oath is what’s going on in the DC universe right now. Here’s a description from the DC website, “The dead rise across the DC Universe, bringing terror and darkness with them. What are the Black Lanterns? What do they want? Will Earth’s greatest heroes survive long enough to find out – or will they join the Black Lantern Corps?”
Basically there is a villain named, “The Black Hand” (in the picture above on the left with the skull in his hand) who has become the first black lantern and is bringing back all of the dead characters from the DC universe. Those who have risen from the dead, superhero and villain alike, are returned as a dark and evil version of their former selves. The goal of the black lanterns so far is to wipe out all sentient life in the universe. There has been further information/developments and the main bad guy of the story has been discovered and you can find it if you look hard enough.
Just putting this out there for anyone who may be interested. If you are interested then you probably already know about it. This series claims to have some really lasting changes in the DC universe, but the always say these kinds of events will. The story so far is really great from several of the tie-in’s I’ve read and has been the only comics to make me want next month to come today.
A bonus that came with the first issue is this plastic black ring. There are rumors that there may be other rings to come for each of the different color of corps. Each corps has an emotion associated with it and a description of each is on the link.
