Update 2: Ever since the release of Resident Evil 4 on the Playstation 2 I’ve noticed an uptick in google requests for “Resident Evil 4 Translations”. I’ve been keeping the list updated as much as possible, so feel free to add anything I’ve missed, whether you know how to translate it or not.)
So, as a public service, I present you the buttonmashing.com “Unofficial” Resident Evil 4 Spanish Phrases translation guide, complete with your additions:
- Cabrón – Literally translated, this means “mountain goat”. Slang, it means “mothertrucker”.
- ¡Jefe! – Boss!
- ¡Voy a romperte (unintelligible) pedazos! – I’m gonna break you into pieces!
- Mierda – Sh*t!
- ¡Allí está! – There he is!
- ¡Es el forastero! – It’s the foreigner!
- ¡Te voy a matar! – I’m going to kill you!
- ¡Te voy a hacer picadillo! – I’m gonna make mincemeat outta you!
- ¡Detrás de tí, imbécil! – Behind you, imbecile!
- ¡Cogedlo! – Grab him!
- ¡Agérrelo! – Grab him!
- Mueren, Mueren, Meuren – Die, die, die
- ¡Mátalo! – Kill him!
- ¡Mátenlo! – Kill him! (another form)
- Morir es vivir. – To die is to live.
- ¿Qué carajo estás haciendo aquí? ¡Lárgate cabrón! – What the hell are you doing here? Get the hell outta here, cabrón
- ¡No deje que se escape! – Don’t let him escape!
- ¡A por él! – After him!
- ¡Te jodiste! – You’re screwed!
- ¿No estás soñando? – Are you sure you’re not dreaming?
- Es hora de rezar – Now is the time to pray
- ¡Tenemos que irnos! – We need to get outta here!
- ¡Puedes correr, pero no puedes esconederte! – You can run but you cant hide!
- ¡Imbécil, quiero matar! – Imbecile, I want to kill you!
“Vocabulary:”
- Los Illuminados – “The Illuminated Ones
- Los Ganados – While this does directly translate as “livestock” or cattle, it can also be used to refer to a group of people, like a mob.
- Las Plagas – The Plagues
- La campana – the bell
- Cerebros – braaaaains

mmm i suppose there are more….those ganados from the castle they say something like “lai cocaine lai cocaine lai cocaine” when they run at you or something like that i dunno
Yeh that’s “cogedlo.” Remember g is pronounced as a thick h sound.
Also “MATALO!” – “KILL HIM!”
in resident evil 4, i also remember hearing ‘matado’ which means kill them. And in the castle, i heard something that sounds like ‘say that rose, say that rose, say that rose’ mumbled over and over but i cant tell what they’re saying
I think I heard something in the castle sounding something like “Morir es venir”(To die is to come) or “Morir es vivir.”(To die is to live) I can’t tell what it is exactly. Its been 4 years since I took Spanish, so I could be quite mistaken there.
does the first ganado say: Qué carajo estás haciendo aquí? Lárgate cabrón which means What the f*ck are you doing here? Get the hell out of here mother f*cker??? let us know! reply to my email plz

I’m hispanic. All these things that the Villagers say in the translation is true. They also say, “Te jodiste” which means you’re screwed or you f*cked urself.
I remember the monks in the castel chanting something like, “Go hino” or “Go hitlo” or maybe “Ko hitno” or some combo of those words, also I’ve heard them chanting something like “lordebesedel”,anyone know what it means?
Also there are a few sayings of the villiagers that im wondering about, I’ll try and type the sayings as best I can.:
“Yenda”
“Heyyyyyyy! Aga!”
“El Vamino!”
“eh go heen!”
“Dono he hetoscopey!”
“He tres ta ben besel”
“He tres ta prompa”
During the first El Giganti fight, “Mateno!” “os vous volos vousvolos” or something like that.

thanks for the translations! playing RE4 has encouraged me to learn spanish, now who said that playing videogames is useless?
There are still a few phrases that havent been translated, like…
sometimes they say something like “a por el” or “na por el” or something, mostly those military zombies say it
Theres this long phrase they say when they see you, it starts with something like “ya es son navedas….” something or another
Oh, and some of the names in spanish i dont get either…
Los Illuminados…im guessing something to do with lights, the enlightened ones or something??
Los Ganados…the villagers are called this, does that mean the winners?
And there are the names of the creatures which i cant remember a few of them but…
Las plagas- my bet is on “the plagues”
Novistadors- those bug things that fly around…wat does “Novistadors” mean?
I’ve taken spanish classes for 4 years, so i can find my way around in a spanish speaking country, but its hard to understand what they are saying i dont know if its just cuz they have that effed up zombie voices or what, but if you can find those, and any more phrases that are left untranslated, then that’d be great if somebody could translate them

Your translations are quite spectactular. Though I am not seeing many of the things that the Castle zealots say, as well as what the enemies on the Island say.

it is not ¡El forastero! is ¡ un forastero!
They say one that looks kind of like “Es el forastero” but doesn’t sound right when I’m playing the game. When you come around a corner, they sometimes scream “Umpadastero!” Of course, I’ve no idea how to spell it or write it, but that’s how it sounds, more so than “Es el forastero”.
Also, one I forgot (since I noticed now that Marcos mentioned the same one I did.) I remember Allí está being in the game, but I swear there is one that sounds more like “kunomesta” in there, too.

the correct translation is “it is time to pray”
tenemos que irnos=we must go to us (Another mistranslation)
It should be “Its time to leave”
“Los ganados” would mean something like “The sheeps”.
Something that I didnt see on the list was “Puedes correr, pero no puedes esconederte” wich means “You can run but you cant hide”.
BTW Im chilean (native spanish speaker for those who dont know de country :P). If you have more doubts I think I should be able to help you. Im playing the PS2 version of the game but It should be about the same as the NGC one.

I’m currently taking my first Spanish class and it’s a good thing I didn’t go around repeating this to my teacher, asking her what it all means. X3 I haven’t beat this game yet, and it makes me sad. The first time I played it, I got to the Iron-Maidens and had to stop so I could give it back to my friend. Now I’m back in the castle, and I hate it ’cause I’m really jumpy this time around. x.x Meh, wish me luck.

RE4Fan mentioned the one you hear when you first use your binoculars at Pueblo and see the cop burning on the tree; they say something that sounds like: “Heeyyyyy! Attack!” Which scared me the first time I played, because I thought they had spotted me XP. Someone PLEASE get back to me on that one.
“Del Lago” can mean “From the Lake” or “Of the lake”.Depends on the context.
“Armaduras” means “Armors”
“Verdugo” means “Executioner”
Well, Mr. Jonny, I believe they say “Hey! Hacha!” Which is transtlated to hatchet or axe, which they seem to have a numerous supply of. Perhaps he’s asking one of his fellow parasitic friends for a hatchet so he can go about his ‘normal’ life.
Is it “cogedlo” or “cogelo”? ‘Cause if it’s “cogedlo”, where does the extra “d” come from?
It’s “cogedlo” because “coged” is the plural command form of “coger”. “Coge” would be the singular command form. So saying “cogedlo!” is like saying “get him, you guys!”

David, when the Los Illuminados go “say that rose” they’re saying “cerebros, cerebros, cerebros” (meaning: brains, brains, brains.)

Second,the Illuminati, were not just scientists killed for not believing in god, as a matter of fact, not all of them were killed, they split up for awhile, but their influce behind the scenes has been found even in these modern times. Plus, they were also aimed at destroying the Roman Chatolic Church, so, scientist they were, but that’s not all they were.
