Education Gaming: Mission U.S.

December 7, 2010 by Tony Leave a Comment

Education Gaming: Mission U.S. This looks cool:

Entirely free and web-based, Mission US puts you in the shoes of a teenage boy in Boston just before the American Revolution. You have to complete a variety of tasks around the city while meeting people and making choices that affect the outcome of the game.

It’s the 21st century version of The Oregon Trail. Only this time kids might actually learn something.

In My Weekend Gaming Hands

December 3, 2010 by Tony Leave a Comment

This should be a BUSY gaming weekend for me. I picked up Just Cause 2 at Gamestop after Christmas shopping for the kids (Daddy took advantage of the Buy 2 Get 1 deal). Then, a friend also loaned me his copy of Red Dead Redemption. Two sandbox games should keep me busy for a while. Oh, and I picked up 4 GB of RAM for my Macbook and I have a ton of new games to play from the Thanksgiving Steam sale (both PC and Mac) so I have quite a lot on my plate. Oh, and I picked up where I left off in my Dragon Quest IX play-through a few months ago. So yeah, I have some gaming to do.

Can you tell college football season is over for me?

What are you playing this weekend?

Cyber Monday

November 29, 2010 by Tony Leave a Comment

I would be remiss if I didn’t point you to some of the killer video game deals over at Amazon.com’s Cyber Monday sale. Twenty bucks off Halo: Reach, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit and twenty-five off Medal of Honor are just a few ways to round out your collection and pick up a few new titles for the long winter nights ahead.

Weekend MMO-gaming

November 19, 2010 by Tony Leave a Comment

What are you planning on playing this weekend? Maybe a new MMO? I might be able to make that happen. So up until early this morning, I had never heard of the Sci-fi MMO Perpetuum. Have you heard of it? Well, the gracious folks at Avatar Creations have given me a handful of access codes to be used to enter the early access period. If you’re interested in trying out the game, leave a comment here letting us know what you’ll be playing this weekend. I’ll pass the codes out first come, first serve. The only thing I ask (besides the comment here) is that you let us know how the game is.

If PC-based Sci-fi MMO’s isn’t your idea of a good gaming weekend, what will you be playing?

In [Nat’s] Hands: I Feel the Need for Speed with the Brotherhood

November 17, 2010 by Nat 3 Comments

It’s been over a year since I’ve mentioned what’s “In My Hands” but my major gaming purchases ended yesterday with Need for Speed Hot Pursuit and Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood.

Initial Impressions

NFS:HP—I spent almost 100 hours with Burnout Paradise on two consoles. We’ve only played two hours but I think Criterion has convinced me to do it all over again. BUSTED.

AC:B—I’m only two hours into this game and it has now become my favorite game series of all time. It should have been Assassin’s Creed 3. Combat is richer, Rome is beautiful, and the multiplayer is a nice, quirky bonus.

Weekend Gaming

November 12, 2010 by Tony 2 Comments

We haven’t done one of these for a while. What’s everyone going to play this weekend?

I finished Dead Rising 2 this past week, so I am going back to work on some of the achievements. Killing 1,000 zombies with my bare hands is going to be boring, but getting the 72k Zombie Genocide Master is going to be AH-SOME!

After I finish a few more achievements, I think I’m mostly done with DR2. It was a fun romp, to be sure. Once I finish with DR2 I’m heading back to FFXIII and hope to do a little running diary of it here on the blog.

What are you playing?

November Releases

November 2, 2010 by Tony 3 Comments

It’s November, which means the start of the Holiday rush. This year has seen Triple-A titles sprinkled throughout the year, so it will be interesting to see if November is more chocked-full than normal. On to the new releases:

Xbox 360 banner

Week of November 1st
Xbox 360 250GB Console with Kinect – I normally don’t list hardware, but with Kinect releasing this month, I figured I’d list the new console before the deluge of Kinect games hits. (And yes, I just added “Kinect” to my spell-checker.)
Kinect Sports – And here comes the Kinect avalanche…
Dance Central – AKA the game that may actually get Tony to buy Kinect.

In my hand

October 30, 2010 by Tony 2 Comments

So I finally broke down and got an iPhone. It’s an older, used 3G iPhone that I plan to use mostly as an iPod touch, but I wanted some time with the system before I make the final plunge and get an new iPhone as my primary cell phone. But that still in the future, so for now I’m just having fun playing around with a new(ish) toy.

So please, some gaming recommendations. I’ve already got the wife and my 5 year-old hooked on Angry Birds. What’s next? I need games for myself and for the kids.
